Today we welcome Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez to Red Hook Farm. She is presenting Added Value's Red Hook Farmer's Market with a check for $112,500. She secured the federal funding for our projects through the U.S. department of Agriculture. Added Value will use the funds to expand the Farmer's Market, increase job training and educational opportunities for neighborhood teens, broaden economic activity for upstate farmers, and improve the health and well-being of the residents of Red Hook and all of South Brooklyn. "Securing these funds demonstrates Representative Velazquez' commitment to future generations in this community, as well as a different kind of vision to promote sustainable futures," said Micheal Hurwitz, co-director of Added Value. The money received is part of a $2 million overall appropriation to several community-based groups in the 12th congressional district. "This funding will help local organizations turn their innovative plans into concrete solutions for the community," said Velazquez. "Residents will be able to access services that are crucial for economic growth and health living These projects will make out communities healthier, safer, and better places to live and work," she added.
