A Portrait of Community by Added Value Summer Youth
As part of the Digital Horizons program, Summer Youth Program participants are creating a portrait of the community at the Red Hook Community Farm. Using digital cameras and voice recorders, we are exploring what different members of the community do, most importantly, why they come to the Farm. What follows is a portrait of our community through photos and quotes gathered and edited by Added Value youth.

"I like growing food, I live in the city, and this gives me the opportunity to do what I really like, which is to dig in the dirt, and grow food. I actually have been here before, but I have never come here when it’s open, but then I found out it’s on Saturdays."
"I think that people get a chance to come out and see where their food comes from, I think people make connections through their food and what they eat, and I think this is the perfect place to do it, it’s beautiful out here." "I love seeing my friends here and putting my Saturday mornings to good use instead of sitting around or whatever and going to breakfast and being lazy. I like being out here and doing something and seeing the fruits of your labor, and also hanging out with your friends, and going down to the ball fields for lunch, its kind of a really fun routine."
"I love the spirit of community. Whether it’s your first time, or whether you’ve been coming here for a few years, you feel the spirit of community, and you feel like you belong to something that’s important, and that’s local, and if you do something good at the farm, you make a connection. You feel good about coming about the farm, you feel good about living where you live and your community."
