Eighteen hundred people at the farm on one day. What brings all these people to Red Hook? The Harvest Festival!! Added Value’s second annual Red Hook Harvest Festival was a bigger success than last year by one thousand more people.

Not only were there more people, but also there were more vendors. We even had face painting, pumpkin picking and a pumpkin-carving contest like last year. There were cooking demos such as canning, and partners such as the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

The whole Added Value community was there. Being a youth participants makes me a part of the Added Value community too. I was in charge of the children activities with two of my other co-workers. The kids got to come get their face painted, put on costumes, bob for apples and pears (even though it wasn’t really bobbing because the apples were on strings). We had chickens, goats, sheep and farm tours y mucho mucho, mas!!

Come join us for our third annual Harvest Festival next year. We hope to have an even bigger turn out with more vendors, activities and even better entertainment.

This year at the Harvest Festival there were a lot more people than last year. Last year there was a turn out of 800 people, this year there were 1800 people that came. You do the math.

This year there were a lot more food vendors, like Ici, Red Jacket and Rice. Pumpkin picking was one of the most popular activities with the little kids, and the pumpkin carving too. The vendors weren’t new people just selling things at the festival, they work with us as partners all the time. Rice for example gives us the left over food for our compost, and Ici makes food for our big events, like the Endless Feast. They really made some terrific food for us.

Not only was there a lot more vendors, there were also a lot more activities for kids and adults. There were goats you could pet and chickens that we named. The goats were a hit with some people. They seemed to like to pet and feed them. The goats were very friendly and gentle with the people. One of the goats was named Sandy and she was my favorite one. The kids were also petting chickens.

Next year the Harvest Festival will be much better and have even more activities. So you should come on down and support us. We promise you will have a good time!
